What is an LED?

An LED is a light-emitting diode. LEDs are completely different to all other light bulbs. In simple terms, an LED contains a semiconductor and light is created when electrons move around within this. LED bulbs are the most efficient at converting energy to light, and put out far less heat than traditional bulbs. In this way they are able to produce the same light output as alternative technologies, whilst drawing less electricity.

Cost Effective

LED bulbs could save you up to £5 per year per bulb and could save you a massive £125 over a bulbs lifetime.

Energy Saving

Up to 90% more efficient than incandescent bulbs.

Long Life

Up to 25,000 hours which is 25x longer lifetime than an incandescent light bulb.

Instant On

LEDs are at full brightness from switch on.

Fantastic Colour

With a CRI (colour rendering index) greater than 80 you now have the choice between a replication of the incandescent’s traditional warm white light or the option to choose cool white for a more natural daylight effect.

What is a CFL?

A CFL is a compact fluorescent lamp. CFLs work by applying an electric current to mercury vapour with their tubes causing an emission of UV light. Phosphor that lines the walls of the tube absorbs this UV light which causes an electron to jump up to a higher energy orbital. When the electron drops back down the phosphor re-emits its energy as visible light.

Energy Saving

Up to 80% more efficient than incandescent bulbs.

Long Life

Up to 10,000 hours which is 10x longer lifetime than an incandescent light bulb.

Rapid Start

CFLs now have much faster warm up times to full brightness.

Fantastic Colour

CFLs closely replicate the traditional warm white light of incandescents with a CRI of 82.

Low Mercury Levels. TCP CFLs only have 2.0mg of mercury, compared to the 3.0-5.0mg of other leading competitors.

However…

Under new EU regulations, CFLs will be phased out as of September 2016.

What is an Eco Halogen?

Like the incandescent bulb, halogens also contain a tungsten filament however it’s encased in a much smaller quartz envelop – a ‘halogen house’ as it were. The gas inside this envelop is from the halogen group and combine with tungsten vapour. When the temperature is hot enough the halogen gas combines with the tungsten atoms as they evaporate and redeposit them on the filament. This recycling process give the filament a great longevity than incandescent bulbs and also allows the filament to run hot meaning there is more light per unit of energy. However, the major downside to halogen bulbs is that they get extremely hot as the quartz envelope is so close to the filament.

Energy Saving

Up to 30% more efficient than incandescent bulbs.

Longer Life

Up to double the lifetime of an incandescent bulb at 2,000 hours.

Excellent Colour

Eco Halogens have a CRI of 100 and replicate the warm white light of traditional incandescent light bulbs.

Fully Dimmable

All Eco Halogen bulbs are fully dimmable.
